Innovation Award

Award Description

The Innovation Award acknowledges the significant accomplishments of a professional who is engaged in any aspect of the electronic resource lifecycle, and has shown true ingenuity in day-to-day dealings with electronic resources. This award will showcase the winner's contributions to the field at the 2009 ER&L Conference, and will be used to share and build on the creative solutions that the applicant has applied at her home institution and with colleagues engaged in the field.


Amount of Award

The award will provide registration costs, four nights lodging, and airfare; total award not to exceed $1,300.

Note: the award does not include stipends for food/meals not included in conference registration or for transportation to and from the airport and the conference hotel.


Eligibility Criteria

  • This award is open to attendees engaged in any aspect of electronic resource work. Apply for this award if you feel that you have contributed appreciably to your institution or your profession by implementing change through the creation of new tools, workflows, etc., in the area of electronic resources.
  • When applying, you will be asked to describe your contributions to the field of electronic resources and how your creativity, perseverance, and initiative in this area have benefited the profession. (1,000 words maximum)


Selection Criteria

The selection committee will base its decision on the accomplishments of the applicant as described in the essay.


Awardee's Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be asked to participate in the ER&L Conference by contributing to this year's Lightning Rounds. Lightning Rounds are short, fast-paced, five-minute presentations on timely topics, new ideas or innovative projects.

Needs-Based Travel Grant

Award Description

This grant is being offered to those individuals whose institutions do not offer travel compensation for the ER&L Conference. The purpose of the award is to allow a unique opportunity for education and professional growth in the field of electronic resources by attending the ER&L Conference.


Amount of Award

The grant will cover the cost of registration, four nights lodging, and airfare; total award not to exceed $1,300.

Note: the award does not include stipends for food/meals not included in conference registration or for transportation to and from the airport and the conference hotel.


Eligibility Criteria

Consider applying for the grant if your institution does not offer travel compensation, and your job duties center around electronic resources. Your supervisor may be contacted to verify that you are eligible for this award. Priority will be given to those who have not attended a previous ER&L conference.


Selection Criteria

This grant will be based on financial need as well as the benefits the conference may provide to the applicant's daily job responsibilities and interests as described in the applicant's essay. The decision will be based on the responses to the following open ended question.

  • Please describe how you would benefit professionally and personally by attending the ER&L Conference. (1,000 words maximum)

Student Scholarship

Scholarship description

This scholarship is for a student to attend the Electronic Resources & Libraries annual conference. The goal is to provide the student with an understanding of the current ideas, trends, and technologies related to electronic resources and digital services. Attending the conference will provide students with a professional development opportunity that will assist them in building a network of colleagues and encourage students to pursue some aspect of electronic resources work upon completion of their professional degree.


Amount of Scholarship

Award includes the cost of registration, four nights lodging and airfare; total award not to exceed $1,150.

Note: the award does not include stipends for food/meals not included in conference registration or for transportation to and from the airport and the conference hotel.


Eligibility criteria

  • Scholarship applicants must be a full-time or part time student working toward an ALA-accredited degree
  • Scholarship applicant must demonstrate an interest in electronic resources work


Selection Criteria

The decision will be based on the responses to the following open ended questions. Preference will be given to individuals who have not previously attended an ER&L conference.

  • Briefly describe your progress toward your degree, and explain how your coursework has prepared or will prepare you for electronic resources work. (300 words maximum)
  • How will attending the ER&L conference help you achieve your academic and/or professional goals? (500 words maximum)


Awardee’s responsibilities

Recipients are expected to attend the entire conference and participate in general discussions. Recipient will also be expected to write a brief report about their experiences, which will be published on the ER&L website.

Recent Graduate Grant

Grant description

This grant is for a recent library school graduate to attend the Electronic Resources & Libraries annual conference. The goal is to provide new librarians with an understanding of the current ideas, trends, and technologies related to electronic resources and digital services. Attending the conference will provide new librarians with a professional development opportunity that will assist them in building a network of colleagues and encourage new librarians to pursue some aspect of electronic resources work.


Amount of Grant

Award includes the cost of registration, four nights lodging, and airfare; total award not to exceed $1,300.

Note: the award does not include stipends for food/meals not included in conference registration or for transportation to and from the airport and the conference hotel.


Eligibility criteria

  • Grant applicants must have received a degree from an ALA-accredited institution between 2006-2008.
  • Grant applications must have demonstrated an interest in electronic resources work.

The decision will be based on the responses to the following open ended questions. Preference will be given to individuals who have not previously attended an ER&L conference.

  • Briefly describe your degree focus, and explain how these courses prepared you for electronic resources work. (300 words maximum)
  • What are your professional career goals and how are electronic resources related to those goals? How will attending the ER&L conference help you achieve your academic and/or professional goals? (500 words maximum)

Developing Nation Conference Presenter Award

Award description

This award is intended to assist one conference presenter from a developing nation in attending Electronic Resources & Libraries 2009 conference. The goals of this award are to encourage diversity and internationalism in the scope of conference programs offered, and to allow a program presenter who otherwise could not attend the opportunity to contribute to and participate in the discussions surrounding electronic resources in libraries.


Amount of Award

Award includes cost of registration, 4 nights lodging, and airfare; total award not to exceed $2000.

Note: The award does not include stipends for food/meals not included in conference registration or for transportation to and from the airport and the conference hotel.


Eligibility criteria

  • Award recipient must be a citizen of a developing or emerging country.

Note: The ER&L 2009 Scholarship Committee reserves the right to determine whether a country qualifies as developing or emerging.

  • Award recipient must have a conference presentation proposal accepted for the 2009 conference. Please submit a proposal before applying for the Award


Selection criteria

The decision will be based on answers to the following open-ended questions.

  • Please describe the nature of your current professional position. If you are currently working with electronic resources, please describe your role. (300 words maximum)
  • Please describe the contribution you hope to make to the world of electronic resources in libraries by presenting your conference program. (500 words maximum)
  • What are your professional career goals and how are electronic resources related to those goals? How will attending the ER&L conference help you achieve your professional goals? (500 maximum)


Awardee's responsibilities

  • The recipient will be expected to attend the entire conference and participate in general discussions.
  • The recipient will be expected to meet all obligations in presenting the conference program as accepted.

International Conference Attendee Travel Grant

Grant description

This grant is intended to assist one conference attendee from a non-North American country in attending the Electronic Resources & Libraries 2009 conference. The goal of this grant is to encourage diversity and internationalism among the conference participants and to promote discussions of electronic resources that are global in nature.


Amount of Grant

Grant includes airfare expenses, not to exceed $1000.

Note: the award does not include stipends for food/meals not included in conference registration or for transportation to and from the airport and the conference hotel.


Eligibility criteria

  • Grant recipient must be a citizen of a country located outside of North America
  • Grant recipient must have a professional interest in electronic resources in libraries


Selection criteria The decision will be based on answers to the following open-ended questions.

  • Please describe the nature of your current professional position. If you are currently working with electronic resources, please describe your role. (300 words maximum)
  • What are your professional career goals and how are electronic resources related to those goals? How will attending the ER&L conference help you achieve your professional goals? (600 words maximum)


Grantee's responsibilities

  • Recipient is expected to attend the entire conference and participate in general discussions.
  • Recipient is expected to write a brief report about her/his conference experience, which will be published on the ER&L website.
