Welcome Niche Academy!
Niche Academy will be joining ER&L as a Platinum Sponsor for the first time at our 15th Anniversary Conference. It is with great pleasure that we welcome Jeromy, Jerod and the rest of the team to the ER&L audience!
Niche Academy is a tool for creating elegant online training experiences. It makes things easier for instructors as well as learners. Read more about how they work with libraries.
“Libraries have been a big part of my life. My dad was one of the founders of Dynix (now SirsiDynix). I remember long road trips across the country visiting libraries all along the way. I think I was 4 when I first went to ALA. While I was going to school I worked in my college library cataloging government documents. When I started Niche Academy, a learning management system, the library world was a familiar space for me. I understood many of the challenges and where new technology could make a difference.”
“The academic libraries we work with face some common challenges around the essential information literacy services they provide in their campus communities. Most information literacy instruction is delivered in-person in a short single session. With just one short session, it’s nearly impossible to provide all the instruction students really need. Niche Academy provides ready-to-use online tutorials covering topics like “Better Search Techniques”, “Finding the Right Sources” and “Paraphrasing and Summarizing”.
Niche academy also creates and maintains tutorials introducing specific academic databases from sources like Gale, Ebsco, and Proquest. This gives library trainers a quick way to give students additional instruction they can refer to later. Librarians can be confident that the Niche Academy tutorials are professional quality and exactly what students will need to get a job done.
The Niche Academy platform also makes it easy to deliver tutorials exactly at the point of need, in a LibGuide, in the library website, or directly in the college’s Learning Management System, for example. Niche Academy also makes it beautifully simple for libraries to create their own custom tutorials, for staff training or highlighting their own unique resources.”
